"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands."
-Psalm 19: 1

Nothing Compares

What is the most magnificent thing that you can think of? The beauty of a sunset? The majesty of a mighty mountain? Perhaps your mind thinks of different things. A new car, splendid wardrobe, or beautiful person? There are many things on this earth that are truly wonderful and beautiful. But we need to remember that they all pale in comparison to God. "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." (Psalm 19: 1). Nothing compares to God and the relationship that we can have with Him. The musical group, Third Day, expresses this thought in their song, 'Nothing Compares.'

Nothing Compares (by Third Day)
I've heard all the stories
I've seen all the signs
Witnessed all the glory
Tasted all that's fine

(Chorus) Nothing compares to the greatness of knowing You, Lord
Nothing compares to the greatness of knowing You, Lord

I see all the people
Wasting all their time
Building up their riches
For a life that's fine

Repeat Chorus

I find myself just living for today
'Cause I don't know what
Tomorrow's gonna bring
So no matter if I rise or fall
I'll never be alone, oh no

Repeat Chorus

I recently found myself in a 'funk.' My tank felt empty spiritually, mentally, and physically. Maybe you know what I mean? Through the encouragement and prayers of some very good friends I rediscovered something that I had temporarily forgotten. Nothing compares to a relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The evangelist Paul reminds us of this in his letter written to the church of Philippi. "What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ-the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith." (Philippians 3: 8-9) I was living for today and allowing myself to be caught in the daily ups and downs of life. I had lost focus on what really mattered, my relationship with Jesus! A thank you to my friends whose words of encouragement and prayers 'opened my eyes' to see things from a different perspective. Nothing compares to You, Lord! See Psalm 96: 1-6 below :). Amen!

I pray that all is well with you. Please let me know if you have any prayer concerns or praises. Have a great week and remember to smile :), the Lord loves you!

In Christ,

Shan D. Hartsough

"Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and glory are in his sanctuary." -Psalm 96: 1-6
