"You are a lamp, O Lord;
the Lord turns my darkness into light."
-2nd Samuel 22: 29
'Light'
Recently our area was hit by some
severe storms and many homes were struck with a power outage. It
is amazing how dependent we are on electricity. Our home was without
power for more than twenty-four hours and I know that others were
hit even harder. At one point as darkness came across our neighborhood
I noticed that many of the businesses and homes around us had power
but we remained in an 'island of darkness.' I could see light all
around me but my home had none. It made me think about how many
people in our world live like this? With 'light' all around them
yet they may stay in an 'island of darkness.' While we in our world
might need electricity to live our lives easier and to provide our
homes with light there is another 'light' that is much more important.
"This is the message we have heard from him and declare
to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we
claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in darkness, we lie and
do not live by truth. But if we walk in the light, we have fellowship
with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from
all sin." (1st John 1: 5-7) Is the 'light' of God in your
life? What is the light of your world? How dependent are you on
that light? For me, I know that Jesus is the Light of the world
that I need more than anything else.
If Jesus is the Light of your world, is your 'light' shining for
Him? Just as my house remained dark in an area surrounded by light
so the opposite is also true. One light in a 'dark world' shines
brightly! Is your light shining? "You are the light of the
world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light
a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand,
and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let
your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and
praise your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5: 14-16) There
are many people living in darkness. Your light, the light that you
receive from Jesus, may be the only light in their world. Let it
shine brightly so that they too will come to know your Father in
heaven and receive from Him the true 'light.' Amen!
I pray that all is well with you. Please let me know if you have
any prayer concerns or praises. Have a great week and remember to
smile :), the Lord loves you!
