"Come, all you who are
thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy,
and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost."
-Isaiah 55: 1
Desperate
A praise song that we sing often
at Maple Grove is Michael W. Smith's song Breathe. Part of the chorus
of that song goes, 'I'm desperate for You, I'm lost with you.' Powerful
words in a beautiful song. It got me wondering about the word, desperate.
What does it mean to be desperate? I looked the word up in the dictionary.
Desperate: 1. reckless from despair; ready to run any risk. 2. leaving
little or no hope; very serious or dangerous. 3. having no hope.
In my mind I can picture a traveler lost in the desert with no water.
As their thirst builds I can imagine their desperation as they continue
to be unable to find their way. They would become desperate for
water. Are we desperate for the Lord in the same way that the desert
traveler would be desperate for water? Or, are we too comfortable
with our lives? What are desperate for? Our next paycheck? Our next
day off? The next 'party' ? etc...
I believe that there are many people who are desperate. They are
travelers in the 'desert' called life. They are searching for truth
and hope in a world filled with plenty of tragedies, pain, and confusion.
Where can they turn? Only Jesus has the answer. "...If anyone
is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me,
as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from
within him." (John 7: 37-38) Praise the Lord for His ability
to cure our 'thirst!' And what about the cost? "...let him
take the free gift of the water of life.' (see Revelation
22: 18 below) It's free! All we need to be is desperate enough
to go to the Lord and receive it.
I pray that all is well with you. Please let me know if you have
any prayer concerns or praises. Have a great week and remember to
smile :), the Lord loves you!

"The Sprit and the bride
say, 'Come!' And let him who hears say, 'Come!' Whoever is thirsty,
let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift
of the water of life." -Revelation 22: 18
