"So now, go. I am sending
you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.'
-Exodus 3:10
My Deliverer
"My deliverer is coming-my deliverer
is standing by." Those words can be heard in the song,
My Deliverer, by Rich Mullins. We all need a 'deliverer' in our
life. Praise the Lord for His son, Jesus, who is the deliverer for
us all. In the Old Testament book of Exodus we read about
another 'deliverer.' Moses was called by God to deliver the Israelite
people out of slavery and bondage in Egypt. The Israelites had been
the slaves of the Egyptians for more than 400 years but their cries
for help had not fallen on deaf ears. "The Lord said, 'I
have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard
them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned
about their suffering.' " (Exodus 3: 7) This same Lord
hears the cries of His people today. If you are suffering at the
hands the 'slave driver' (Satan) who torments us in these days,
then cry out to God and He will hear you. He will send a deliverer.
The deliver for the Israelite people came from an unlikely source.
Moses had been saved from death as a child when his mother placed
him in a basket and floated him down the Nile instead of throwing
him into the river as the law of Egypt demanded. Moses ended up
being raised in the very house of Pharaoh. Upon realizing later
in life that he was a Hebrew and in a fit of rage over the mistreatment
of some slaves, Moses killed an Egyptian overseer. He ran away and
ended up in the family of Jethro where Moses was a shepherd. It
was at this point in Moses' life that God summoned him from the
burning bush. "So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to
bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.' (Exodus 3:10)
Moses did in fact protest and questioned God about this awesome
task of going to the most powerful person in the ancient world,
the Pharaoh of Egypt, but in the end he was obedient and placed
his faith in God. You know how the story goes and Moses does in
fact deliver the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. With God's help
he became their deliverer.
I believe that we too are called to be deliverers for God. There
are people all around us who are in 'slavery, bondage, and suffering'
today. "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded
you..." (Matthew 28 :19) We are all called today to serve
the Lord and to bring others to Him. Our lives should be a 'testimony'
of what the 'deliverer' has done for us and what He will do for
those who are lost and suffering. In this way, we can be a Moses.
By being obedient and placing our faith in God, we too can be a
deliver for those around us in need of one. And the great news is
we don't have to do it alone "...And surely I am with you
always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28: 19) Jesus
is there for us. To help us along the way. "...The kingdom
of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ,
and he will reign for ever and ever." (Revelation 11: 15)
Please pray this prayer, "Dear Lord, thank You so much for
being my Deliverer. Where would I be without You? Help me Lord to
live my life for You. To be obedient. To place my faith and trust
in You. There are so many in this world who are lost, who are suffering,
who are living lives of slavery and bondage. Lord I pray for them.
I pray that my life would be an example to them of the freedom found
in You. I pray that like Moses, by trusting in You, that I may be
a deliver for someone in need. Amen."
Take a moment and encourage someone this week.
I pray that all is well with you. Please let me know if you have
any prayer concerns or praises. Have a great week and remember to
smile :), the Lord loves you!
In Christ,
