"All men are like grass, and all their glory is like flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever."
-1st Peter 1: 25

When There's Nothing Left

Sometimes life can be comfortable, maybe even too comfortable. We live day to day on 'cruise control.' God becomes more distant; almost 'unnecessary.' Have you ever experienced this? Many people live their lives day to day in this 'comfortable' zone but what happens when things fall apart? When our comfort is shaken, the security stripped away. Where do we turn? It is in times like these that we need to turn back to Christ. We need to get out of 'cruise control' and return to 'Christ control.' 'Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." (2nd Corinthians 4: 16-18) The comforts of this world will come and go but God will still be there when there is nothing left. I am so thankful for that!

It is very easy for me to 'fall in love' with the world. The pleasure I can find; the security that God has blessed me with. In this world we can get ahead by accumulating 'trophies.' Acquiring wealth or achieving a high status in the eyes of other people. There is much that can be gained in this world. But Jesus tells us in Matthew 16: 26, "What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?" What does this world really have to offer us? Sure, there are pleasures, wealth, power, status, etc...that are there for each of us if we desire. But where do these things get you in the end? I know that I need to work in my life to overcome my love of this world. I need to keep in mind the truth. The truth is, that when all this world is stripped away, God IS ALL THERE IS. Eternity with God is the greatest prize! It is the only prize that will survive when there's nothing left. AMEN!

Take a moment and encourage someone this week.

I pray that things are well with you. Please let me know if you have any prayer concerns or praises. Have a great week and remember to smile :), the Lord loves you!

In Christ,

Shan D. Hartsough
