"But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions-it is by grace that you have been saved."
-Ephesians 2: 4

What I Deserve

It is a popular notion in our culture that we should get what we deserve. For example, I deserve this nice house, this expensive car, this clothing, etc... These things are in my life because I deserve them. I deserve to be treated with respect, or to have good things happen to me. These are examples of how we think that we 'deserve' things. What about people in prison? Or those who live in poverty? They got what they deserved! It's their fault. If only they had been wiser, or more gifted, or wasteful. People in jail deserve it. After all if you can't pay the fine don't commit the crime. In our culture today you get what you deserve.

I have lived with this way of thinking throughout my life. But I am thankful today that we have a Lord who does not treat us as we deserve. Read Psalm 103: 10 below. This past weekend we celebrated Good Friday and Easter. Much of the world paid respect to a man (the Son of God) who suffered a penalty that He did not deserve. Jesus went willingly to the cross, not because He deserved it, but because of His love for me, you, and all people. He took our transgressions, our sins, upon Himself. He knows my mind (and yours). He knows my heart (and yours). He knows what I deserve (what you deserve)! But because of His sacrifice I will not get what I deserve! Praise the Lord for his grace & mercy. Have you accepted this gift from Him? Or will you take your chances on getting 'what you deserve?'

The miracle of Jesus' death is that He overcame death. His resurrection, which we celebrate on Easter Sunday, is a miracle. Jesus conquered death and He lives today. The same love that took Him to the cross is there for you today. Will you accept it? For those of you who have accepted this great gift, take some time and thank the Lord for His love (and mercy). Then go and share it with the people around you.

Take a moment and encourage someone this week.

I pray that all is well with you. Please let me know if you have any prayer concerns or praises. Have a great week and remember to smile :), the Lord loves you!

In Christ,

Shan D. Hartsough

"He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities."
-Psalm 103: 10
