"For nothing is impossible with God."

Impossible Barriers

During our recent family vacation we found ourselves driving through the mountains of Virginia and West Virginia. It amazes me how man has found a way to overcome what at first seemed to be impossible barriers. On the border of Virginia and West Virginia is a mountain that blocks the interstate. The solution? Tunnel right through it. Without even a second thought you drive your vehicle through a mountain. Incredible! Also in West Virginia you can find the New River Gorge. For years in order to cross the New River Gorge drivers were forced to take a 40 mile detour or carefully wind down narrow mountain roads. Today they drive, in less than a minute, over the world's longest spanning single arch bridge that soars 876 feet above the New River, the 2nd tallest bridge in the U.S. An 88 million pound bridge (that's about 4, 000 elephants) sitting 876 feet above the river! Wow! Man clearly has found a way to overcome some very difficult barriers. If man can accomplish these great feats how much more is possible with God?

Overcoming physical barriers is one thing but there are many of us who have barriers of another kind in our lives. Struggles with sin, broken or strained relationships, fears, insecurity, etc... to name a few. These 'barriers' take many different forms. They seem to us to be impossible barriers to overcome. Most of us struggle in silence afraid to share these barriers with others fearing they might consider us 'weak.' But remember, with God all things are possible! "For nothing is impossible with God." (Luke 1: 37) This is what the angel told Mary when the virgin birth of Jesus was foretold to her. In another example, as an answer to a question from His disciples about who can be saved, Jesus replies, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." (Matthew 19: 26) There is nothing that is impossible for the Lord. I know how it feels to have 'impossible barriers' in my life but let me encourage you to trust the Lord and give them over to Him in prayer. The Lord is faithful. "Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?" (Luke 12: 24-26) Turn your impossible barriers over to God and watch them fade away.

Anything is possible with God but we are asked to do our part. Believe and have faith! When Jesus heals a boy with an evil spirit he is challenged by the boy's father. "It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us." "If you can?" said Jesus. "Everything is possible for him who believes." (Mark 9: 23) In the book of Hebrews we are challenged about faith. "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." (Hebrews 11: 6) There are times in all of our lives when 'impossible barriers' appear. But remember that with God all things are possible for those who believe and have faith in Him.

Take a moment and encourage someone this week!

I pray that things are well with you. Please let me know if you have any prayer concerns or praises. Have a good week and remember to smile :), the Lord loves you!

In Christ,

Shan D. Hartsough
